Welcome to Hold the Stigma!

Hold the Stigma was created by me, Nic, to share my mental health experiences, knowledge about, and views on mental health issues. I have lived with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (with panic attacks), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder predominantly inattentive type (formerly known as ADD), and complex PTSD (and previously Major Depressive Disorder) for years and have become more resilient over time thanks to therapy, coping skills, and self-care.

I’m a Pittsburgh native, indigenous (Tsalagi aka Cherokee), and a spoonie/ POTSie (I have a form of dysautonomia called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and other conditions). I get to be a mental health educator/event planner for my full-time job, which is pretty amazing) and I have a B.S. in Public Health. When I’m not doing mental health work, I love to dance, listen to music (everything from hiphop to instrumental prog-rock to kpop), hike, and travel.

My biggest passions are mental health awareness, educating people, and fighting the stigma and stereotypes associated with mental illness. My aim is to educate, inspire, and hopefully entertain (who says mental health awareness can’t be fun?). Enjoy!
